   The Ames 1849 Rifleman's knife is one of the rearest edge weapon in the collecting community, and as such there are a lot of reproductions and fakes on the market.  Many of these are well made to the proper specs, but the key is the maker and inspection marks.  

The top photos show the fake markings and if you compare them to the photos of the real knife you will never be fooled.
